FINAL SCORE:
Saskatchewan – 1
Victoria – 1
SASKATOON, SK – After their first win of the regular season, the Huskies (1-3-3) came out to close the soccer double header weekend in Saskatoon against the University of Victoria Vikes (3-1-3)
Historically, the Huskies have gone 23-68-16 against the Vikes and with large thanks to the Dogs defensive weapon of the day,
Luke Mackie, the teams were held to a 1-1 draw.
After a slow start on both sides of the ball, SSK's
Ethan Cabral opened the scoring action with an assist from
Diego Reveco (34').
The Vikes were quick to respond with a goal of their own by Yassin Guitouni in the 37
th minute.
Both Sask and Vic's keepers were held to an even standard based on the defensive battle – each chalking up 5 saves on the afternoon.
The scoring would stop after Guitouni's goal, and the rest of the game fell into the hands of two dominant defenses and ultimately fell to a draw. Standout defensive performances were noted by Victoria's Jordan McKinty and Saskatchewan's
Luke Mackie.
