MSOC: Draw for Men's Soccer Against Golden Bears

EDMONTON, AB - A free-kick goal for Saskatchewan Huskie Diego Reveco in the 81st minute stopped the Alberta Golden Bears in their tracks, as the two rivals scratched out a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Foote Field.

Dominating possession, shots, and scoring chances, Alberta seemed destined for three points in the standings. Golden Bear Rilind Idrizi's marker in the 56th minute looked like the difference maker in a lopsided contest. However, Reveco showcased a touch of brilliance late, curling a gorgeous free kick around the Alberta wall from 20 yards out.

Saskatchewan found it tough to find the net for the first 70+ minutes, but were able to find some offence late in the second half, forcing an Alberta foul deep in their own territory, and capitalizing with the ensuing goal.

The Golden Bears out-shot the Huskies 22-8, including a wide 12-4 advantage of shots on target. Huskie goalkeeper Jaron Slopinski was brilliant, turning aside 11 of the 12 shots he faced, displaying aggression on Alberta free kicks and corners. Alberta finished the match with seven corners and a handful of free kicks inside 30 yards. Saskatchewan finished the match without a corner kick.
