SASKATOON, SK - The Saskatchewan Huskies were back in action after a week off talking on their provincial rivals the University of Regina Cougars in another U-Prairie Challenge matchup.
The Huskies got a big boost to their lineup tonight witha
Jared Dmytriw and goaltender
Roddy Ross back in the lineup after returning from FISU World Winter University Games. Dmytriw captained Team Canada to a gold meda, putting up three goals and three assists in seven games. Ross made one appearance for Team Canada helping them to a 10-2 win over Sweden in the round robin.
It was the Cougars who would pounce first as Jake Fletcher would put one past
Roddy Ross just 1:19 into the game shorthanded as Eric Houk was in the box for a double major for high sticking. The Dogs would fail to capitalize on the four-minute power play. Jayden Davis would find the back of the net to give Regina the 2-0 lead just eight minutes in.
Justin Ball would score his sixth of the season 13:14 into the first to cut the lead to 1 for the Cougars.
The second period was dominated by Huskies.
Chantz Petruic would tie it up for the Huskies just over a minute into the frame.
Connor Hobbs would find the net a few mintues later at 3:40 to give Saskatchewan the lead for good.
Chantz Petruic would get his second of the period to put the Dogs up two with just under five minutes remaining in the period. Saskatchewan would have a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.
The Huskies added to their lead in the third period as
Alec Zawatsky would put his fifth goal of the season past Regina's Adam Evanoff to extend the Huskies lead.
Vince Loschiavo would score his eighth of the season with under a minute and a half to go. With just over thirty seconds left in the game, Rhett Rhinehart his first of the season for the Huskies after being added to the roster mid-season. Saskatchewan would run away with this one, finishing with a convincing 7-2 victory.
The Huskies outshot the Cougars 35-14. Saskatchewan would go 2/5 on the powerplay, while Regina would finish 1/4 on the man advantage.
The Huskies goaltender
Roddy Ross made 12 saves on 14 shots in the win. In net for the Cougars it was Adam Evanoff in net for the 18th time this season, stopping 28 of 35 on the evening.
This weekend is the final installment of the U Prairie Challenge. The Huskies play their final game of the series versus the Cougars tomorrow night in Regina at 7:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on
