WBB: Victory for the Huskies in Winnipeg with 89-40 Win Over the Wesmen

WINNIPEG, MB - A Canada West juggernaut continued its march through the conference Friday night as the undefeated Saskatchewan Huskies hit the court against the Winnipeg Wesmen. Saskatchewan controlled the ball all night, cruising to an 89-40 win. 
 
THE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Huskies came out strong, dominating the court and leading 29-14 after the first quarter. Tea DeMong had three steals for Saskatchewan in the first. 
  • Saskatchewan continued that pace into the second quarter, with DeMong and Carly Ahlstrom adding five points apiece to outscore the Wesmen 21-9. The Huskies headed into the half with a 50-23 lead. 
  • Gage Grassick emerged as a contender for the Huskies in the third, leading the way with seven points. Winnipeg's struggles followed them into the second half, where once again they would be outscored by the Huskies 21-8. 
  • DeMong led the way for the Dogs in the fourth quarter, with seven points and two rebounds. Ella Murphy Wiebe added four points in the quarter as the Huskies continued to put the offensive pressure on the Wesmen, outscoring Winnipeg 18-9 in the quarter.
  • Saskatchewan kept the Wesmen to under 10 points in each of the second, third and fourth quarters. 
THE STATS
  • The Wesmen went 4-for-21 from three and 15-for-62 from the field. 
  • The Huskies shot 31-for-70 from the field and outrebounded the Wesmen 52-34. 
  • Tea DeMong's 23 points paced the Huskies. Gage Grassick chipped in with 21 points, and Carly Ahlstrom added 12 points, with nine rebounds and five blocks. 
  • Winnipeg first year Jazmin Birch had a career high 10 points off the bench to lead the Wesmen. Raia Guinto added nine points with two steals.  
THE STANDINGS
Saskatchewan remains one of the only two teams in Canada West with an undefeated record at 9-0,, with the Trinity Western Spartans holding a 7-0 record. Friday night was the Wesmen's seventh straight loss as they hold a 1-8 record after the game.
