SASKATOON, SK – In a Top 5 match-up, the U SPORTS second-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies and fourth-ranked Calgary Dinos met at Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court at the Physical Activity Complex in Saskatoon on Friday evening. Both teams walked into the gym undefeated, but only the Huskies would leave holding onto their unconquered status after a 70-56 victory over the Dinos.
THE HIGHLIGHTS
- Carly Ahlstrom led scoring for most of the game, making two three-pointers and two free throws in the first quarter. Saskatchewan would continue running plays through Ahlstrom and she stood out for the Huskies, scoring an additional eight points on the night.
- The Huskies continued to build on their lead in the second quarter, reaching half-time with a 41-28 lead over the Dinos.
- Following the break, Saskatchewan would go on a nine-point scoring run and establish a 19-point lead to make it a 55-36 game.
- The Dinos outscored the Huskies 20-15 in the fourth quarter but they were unable to overcome their deficit.
THE STATS
- Calgary's Myriam Kone would lead the point race, putting up 18 on the night, shooting 46.7% in field goals and 100% in free throws. Kone would add five rebounds for the Dinos.
- Carly Ahlstrom led Saskatchewan's stats in scoring and rebounds, scoring 16 points and putting up 11 boards.
- Four Huskies put up double digits, Tea DeMong (12), Gage Grassick (13), and Courtney Primeau (15).
- Gage Grassick (SSK) lead in steals, contributing five of the Huskies' 16 steals.
THE STANDINGS
The win keeps the Huskies undefeated and at the top of the Canada West standings, extending their win streak to seven. The Calgary loss moves the Dinos to a 6-1 record.
