MBB: Dewar Shines in 81-55 Win Over Griffins

SASKATOON, SK – Back at the Physical Activity Complex on Saturday night, the Saskatchewan Huskies ran away with an 81-55 win over the MacEwan Griffins.

Saskatchewan was aggressive from tip-off, jetting out to a quick 9-0 lead. The slow start did not last for the Griffins, who pushed back hard, coming within two points at 11-9 Huskies. Saskatchewan's offence would keep driving, with the defence keeping MacEwan from their net and limiting them to only three more points in the quarter. Huskies finished up the quarter with a 27-12 lead.

The second quarter would be MacEwan's best of the game as they kept the pressure on the Huskies. Even with the pressure they were outscored 23-17.

Saskatchewan headed into the half with a 50-29 lead over MacEwan. Alexander Dewar had 18 points in the half for the Huskies, with Easton Thimm adding eight points. MacEwan's Matthew Osunde led the way with 13 points.

Both teams tightened things up for the second half, with MacEwan's defence stepping up and getting aggressive in the paint on the rebounds. The Huskies outscored the Griffins 17-11 on the quarter, taking a 67-40 lead heading into the fourth.

The Huskies continued to drive a relentless pace through the last quarter of play, with Dewar making some impressive shots for the Dogs. While the Griffins had the 15-14 edge this quarter, the deficit was too much to overcome for the visitors, who head back to Edmonton with two losses on the weekend.

Saskatchewan's bench was the game changer, scoring 35 points for the Huskies, with the MacEwan bench adding just 10.
