MBB: Third Quarter Stumble Leads to Huskies Loss Against Thunderbirds

SASKATOON, SK - The Saskatchewan Huskies welcomed the UBC Thunderbirds to Ron & Jane Graham Centre Court at the Physical Activity Complex Friday evening for what would turn out to be a thrilling match-up. 

Both teams approached the weekend with a 3-1 record. After battling it out, the Thunderbirds would come out on top in the final minutes of the game, defeating the Huskies 82-78.
 
THE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Out of the gate, the Huskies held the lead for the duration of the quarter, finishing the first with a five point lead over the Thunderbirds.
  • The Huskies held onto their lead until the end of the half, where the two teams would go basket-to-basket. The Thunderbirds would take over the lead, leading 43-42 heading into the second half. 
  • UBC's Brian Wallack led the scoring at half-time, putting down 20 points in the first 20 minutes.
  • The Thunderbirds established a 10-point lead over the Huskies early in the first half of the third, attempting to keep the Huskies at distance. 
  • The Huskies fought back hard in the fourth with Alexander Dewar tying the game up at 75 a piece with three minutes left to play. 
  • Ultimately, fouls would cost the Huskies the game and the Thunderbirds would take an 82-78 victory with free throws.
THE STATISTICS
  • Saskatchewan had four players recording double digits in the game, with Fisayo Moibi leading the team with 15 points. Easton Thimm, named Huskie Athlete of the Week this past week after his performance in the paint last weekend, led the team in rebounds, getting his hands on four offensive and eight defensive boards. 
  • Brian Wallack recorded 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Thunderbirds, shooting 61.5% in field goals and 80% from the line, making 12/15 attempted free throws.
