SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatchewan Huskies welcomed the MacEwan Griffins to the PAC Friday evening for their 2023-24 home-opener after starting their season on the road in Edmonton, sweeping the series 2-0 over the Alberta Pandas. The Huskies added another tally to their win record with a 91-27 victory over the Griffins.
The Huskies asserted their dominance right from the jump, with Carly Ahlstrom tipping it back to Gage Grassick, who would drive the basket and finish with a lay-up, establishing the Huskies' lead within the first four seconds of play.
Saskatchewan would continue to control the quarter, ending the first with a 25-5 lead. Carly Ahlstrom finished the quarter by beating the shot clock and knocking down a three at the horn, leaving two seconds to play and wrapping up the first quarter for the Huskies.
In a team effort, the Huskies would claim the first half 48-10, with Carly Ahlstrom leading the scoring for the Dogs with 16 pts. Tea DeMong,
Andrea Dodig,
and Courtney Primeau followed with 8 points each.
Courtney Primeau would keep the theme of buzzer-beaters going for the Huskies with a quick layup as the horn sounded. The Huskies finished the third quarter 67-15 over the Griffins.
Though resilient until the end, the Griffins could not match the Huskies.
The top scorer for Saskatchewan would be fifth-year Carly Ahlstrom, who recorded 24 of the 91 points put up by the Huskies. For MacEwan, second-year Toki Tsuzuki would lead the team with 8 of the Griffins' 27 points.
