Dogs Look to Defeat Dinos at Home
Round two of the battle between the University of Saskatchewan Huskies (4-2) and the Calgary Dinos (1-5) is set to play out on Saturday at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park. This is the third time this year the teams will meet. Back in August, the Huskies had a dominant performance in the pre-season matchup, outscoring the Dinos 48-6. Meeting during the regular season, the Huskies took home the 28-12 win.
Saskatchewan has the edge over Calgary at the quarterback position. In their last match up,
Anton Amundrud went 20 for 30, and 171 passing yards. Dinos Xavier Vaillancourt went 10 for 19, and 76 passing yards. Amundrud is currently the fifth best quarterback in the nation and his strength and skill will be leaned on heavily in Saturday's game.
The Huskies receiving core remains solid, with
Rhett Vavra,
Daniel Perry, and
Daniel Wiebe all putting up strong numbers for the Dogs, with Vavra leading the team in touchdowns with five. Perry and Wiebe have added three touchdowns a piece.
Ryker Frank and
Kayden Miller continue to impress on kick-off return, with both racking up 163 return yards. Saskatchewan fans continue to remember Frank's 105 yard kick return touchdown against the UBC Thunderbirds on September 29, which made highlight reels across the country.
Saskatchewan's defence continues to be the driving force in the team's successes this year. Linebacker
Nick Wiebe leads the team in solo tackles (33) and assisted tackles (17).
Nixen Voll continues to thrive defensively this season with three interceptions to his name. First year defensive lineman
Reece McCormick has proven to be an incredible asset to the defensive line, and a massive threat to visiting quarterbacks, with 3.5 sacks and an interception this season.
With a strong defence and a talented offence, the Calgary Dinos will have trouble leaving Griffiths Stadium with a win this weekend.

Scouting the Dinos
The question on everyone's mind is, which quarterback will hit the field for the Dinos in Saskatoon? Third year Dom Britton is coming off an injury but has suited up for Calgary at both games in October. Last weekend against the UBC Thunderbirds, he went 16 for 26 and 181 yards. Meanwhile, Xavier Vaillancourt was starting quarterback during the last Huskies/Dinos matchup, going 10 for 19 and 76 passing yards. Regardless of who gets the start, the Dinos have two strong options for their team.
Calgary's Gob Deng continues to thrive on offence. The second year from Vancouver, BC has had an amazing year for the Dinos, with 511 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He is a quick and agile receiver and is expected to be a troublesome target for the Huskies defence.
The Dinos special teams is anchored by Chris Maclean, who has put up 1,948 punting yards and is averaging 45.3 yards per punt. This skill on punt team will ensure good field position for the Dinos throughout the game.
Calgary has an incredibly disciplined team, giving up the least amount of penalty yards this season with 337. Defensively, Sauce Odemwingie leads the team in tackles with 22 solo and 23 assisted. The strength at linebacker is supported by defensive back Nate Beauchemin, with 29 tackles to his name and three interceptions.
