WSOC: Dogs Dominant in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG - The Huskies took down the Winnipeg Wesmen 2-1 Saturday night at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex in Winnipeg.

The Huskies came out strong with first-year goalkeeper, Nadia Kalyar, starting in net and finished with a win on the second night of their two-game trip to Winnipeg. Taryn Raabe got the start for the Wesmen on the other end of the pitch.

The win moved Saskatchewan (4-2-3) into a tie for first place in the Prairie Division while Winnipeg fell to 0-6-1.

The Huskies generated 12 shots but were limited to five on target and while their possession rate was higher than Winnipeg's, the Wesmen managed to limit much of the threatening play.

The Wesmen held a brief lead in the first half after Sydney Arnold scored her first career goal, heading in a corner from Jazmyn Castroin the seventh minute.

The Huskies did not trail for long as Alyssa D'Agnone sixth of the season tied the game less than four minutes after Arnold's goal.

Cassidy Hayward scored her first goal of the season when she was unmarked in front of goal and headed home the game-winner in the 53rd minute off a cross from Nicole Burnett. To put the Huskies ahead for good and secure the 6-point weekend.

The Huskies are back at home on Saturday hosting MRU at 2 PM in Saskatoon at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park. Live stream of the match available on CanadaWest.TV.
