SASKATOON – The afternoon matchup between the Trinity Western University Spartans and University of Saskatchewan Huskies was an action-packed matchup. The Huskies wore their yellow uniforms in their play for a cure game.
The Huskies were auctioning off the jerseys post game to raise money for bone cancer with all proceeds going towards the Canadian Cancer Society.
The Huskies ended with a late push, but the Spartans ultimately edged out the home team 1 – 0 thanks to strong defending from the powerhouse Spartans.
The high-powered Spartans offence, that has scored 14 goals in their first 4 games of the season, put the pressure on the Huskies early.
Nadia Kalyar stood tall out of the gate keeping the Huskies in it. Charis Wadrope finally cracked Kaylar with a beautiful strike from the top of the box in the 28
th minute for the 6
th goal of the year for the rookie out of Maple Ridge, BC.
The second half of the contest was filled with chances with both teams trading opportunities, but it was Hannah Miller in net that the Huskies could not break. This is the 4
th clean sheet of the season for the Spartans.
The Huskies are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Griffiths Stadium against the University of Fraser Valley Cascades at noon. This is also the debut for the first ever Bark In the Park day for the Huskies where limited tickets are available for dogs. All Canada West games can be Watched on CanadaWest.TV.
