SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies took on the University of Fraser Valley Cascades this Sunday afternoon at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park. The defensive battle was highlighted by
Nicole Burnett's ability to inflate the Huskies spirits with a game tying goal late in the match.
The Cascades came out firing on all cylinders on a beautiful afternoon in Saskatoon with Halle McCambley striking early for her 1st of the season just 4 minutes into the contest.
The Huskies pushed for the equalizer but were unable to find the back of the net giving the Cascades the lead heading into the halftime break.
The second half was a defensive battle with neither team willing to give an inch until entering added time.
Nicole Burnett played hero scoring off a fantastic free kick in the 90
th minute. This was a career first USPORTS goal for the second year out of Victoria, BC.
Post-game Huskies Head Coach
Jerson Barandica-Hamilton had some key take aways from the weekend.
"I think yesterday was a tough game, but we need to learn to play two games back-to-back and have freshness. I think a point is better than none, but we got to review film and clean up some of the decision making that we let ourselves down today."
"Overall, it was a tough weekend, but I think our young team learned a lot. We just have to be more clinical in the final third. I think that's the missing link for us. We're going to work hard there's this week and be ready for the upcoming weeks," Barandica-Hamilton concluded.
The Huskies are back in action this Friday, September 23 when they face the Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg. Live stream of the match available on CanadaWest.TV.
