Huskies third-period comeback comes short in loss to Bisons

SASKATOON — A career-night for Brett Murphy helped the University of Manitoba Bisons men's hockey team defeat the Saskatchewan Huskies 3-2 at Merlis Belsher Place.

Murphy made his U SPORTS debut between the pipes and he made the most of the night, making 29 saves on 31 shots to record the win.

The Huskies men's hockey team trailed by three after two period, and while Jaxan Kaluski and Jared Dmytriw each scored in the final frame for the green-and-white, it was too little too late for the Dogs.

After opening the scoring 3:02 into the second period on Liam Schioler's first goal of the season, the Bisons added two more which was ultimately the difference in the hockey game. Ryan Carlson and Lined McCorrister scored in 25 seconds to give the visitors a three-goal lead midway through the third.

That spelled an end to Roddy Ross' night, who allowed nine goals on 12 shots. Jordan Kooy came into the game in relief, stopping all nine shots he faced in his third appearance of the season for the Huskies.

Manitoba moved to 7-11-1 with the win, while Saskatchewan remained in fourth-place in the Canada West with their 12-7-0 record.

A Mount Royal Cougars win and Calgary Dinos loss on Friday night means the Huskies can still clinch fourth-place in the conference, which would present the Dogs a home playoff weekend.
