U-Prairie Challenge: Term One Recap

It's been an incredible first term of competition between the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina in the U-Prairie Challenge presented by SaskMilk. Here's a rundown of all the term one action. 

What is the U-Prairie Challenge?
Presented by SaskMilk, the U-Prairie Challenge is a celebration of varsity sport in Saskatchewan. This annual points-based competition between the University of Regina and the University of Saskatchewan involved 11 different men's and women's events, including soccer, football, hockey, volleyball, basketball, track and field, and cross country.
 
How do the points work?
For the 2022-2023 season, points per win are as follows:
Football – 0.5 points per win
Women's Hockey – 0.25 points per win
Men's Hockey – 0.25 points per win
Women's Soccer – 0.5 points per win, 0.25 points per tie
Women's Basketball – 0.5 points per win
Men's Basketball – 0.5 points per win
Women's volleyball – 0.5 points per win
Cross Country – 1 point per higher placement for men's and women's
Track and Field – 1 point per higher placement for men's and women's
 
How are the Huskies doing?
The University of Saskatchewan has a commanding lead over the University of Regina at the end of term one competition, with the Huskies leading 5.75 to 2.25. Here's a breakdown of how our teams did against Regina since September:

What's ahead? 
Term two will see women's hockey, men's hockey and track and field compete in the final stretch of the U-Prairie Challenge.
 
The challenge wraps up with a bang the weekend of February 3-5, 2023. On Friday night, Merlis Belsher Place will host men's hockey against the Regina Cougars at 7:00 PM. The fun will continue after the game as Saskatoon's very own Gong Show will play the SaskMilk Post-Game Cabaret and a post-game skate. 
 
On Sunday, February 5, the points will be tallied, and the U-Prairie Challenge winner will be named after the women's hockey game at 2:00 PM. Tickets for the weekend's events can be purchased at HuskieTickets.com
