The Huskies head into the 2026 conference championships looking to finish off the Canada West season on a high note. Ahead of them lies a scenic and challenging course, featuring a 2km loop consisting of rolling hills, fast downhill sections and a stretch through the trees that will test a competitive field.
"With the men's team being extremely young, we are looking to establish a championship foundation that will set us up for success in the years to come," said Head Coach
Jason Reindl. "We have a few rookies who could challenge for the rookie team, but ultimately, striving for a podium finish is our annual goal."
"On the women's side, we have a core group of veterans who have raced well in the lead-up to the championship. Now, it's up to them to execute over the full 8 km race."
For the Saskatchewan men's team, the runners to watch for include rookie
Colter Folk and sophomores
Preston Dodge and
Bennett Friesen. The trio have been among Saskatchewan's top finishers in both races this season, highlighted by three top-10 finishes at the Dakota Classic to open the campaign.
In the second race of the day, the Huskie core of
Angelina Beveridge-Warick,
Morgan Tiede, and
Petra Tymko will look to lead the USask squad. Beveridge-Warick has been the highlight of the season, completing both races as Saskatchewan's top finisher with 4th and 13th-places, and will look to continue that trend come Saturday.
Following Saturday's race, the Cross Country season shifts focus to the final race of 2026 and the U SPORTS Championships. The McMaster Marauders are set to serve as this year's national championship hosts, with the race schedule for Nov. 14 in Hamilton, Ontario.

Unfamiliar foes meet this weekend in Kamloops, as the Saskatchewan Huskies and Thompson Rivers Wolfpack face off with a ticket to the Canada West Final Four on the line. The meeting at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops will mark just the fifth conference meeting between the two programs and the first in the postseason.
The Huskies and Wolfpack each punched their ticket to the postseason with similar regular season records. Saskatchewan finished the campaign with an 8-3-3 record and heads into the playoffs on a three-game win streak while the TRU turned in an 8-2-4 regular season, completed with back-to-back wins the final weekend of the regular season.
Throughout the regular season both teams proved that can put the ball in the back of the net, however the Huskies did so more often than their playoff opponent. Saskatchewan finished the season with 31 goals and 83 points while boasting six student-athletes with three or more goals scored. TRU meanwhile scored 18 times and recorded 52 points, and feature just a single goal scorer who found the scoresheet three times.
On the back end the two team's matchup much more closely with the Huskies having allowed nine goals to the Wolfpack's ten. TRU however has proven to surrender more chances to opposing teams, giving up more shots (176) and shots on goal (82) than the Huskies (101 & 58). This has resulted in a clear advantage in total saves (71 to 49) for the Wolfpack.
The Huskie attack has featured a diverse group of goal scorers this weekend from all positional groups. Strikers
Isabelle Lachance and
Cheyenne Lehmann lead the team with five goals each and are followed by defender
Daraida Sutherland and midfielder
Nammi Nguyen with four each. In total, 10 Huskies found the back of the next this season and 11 recorded at least a point.
The Wolfpack are led by Allison Hill, a rookie midfielder who leads the squad in both goals (3) and points (6). Behind Hill, six athletes have scored twice this season and total of 12 have recorded a point.
The winner of Saturday's quarter-final contest will advance to the Canada West Final Four, which will be hosted by the highest remaining team from the Prairie Division next weekend (Nov. 6-8).
