WSOC: Huskies Win Big at Home

SASKATOON – The final regular season home game took place for the USask Huskies this Sunday. They played host to the Lethbridge Pronghorns at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park.

Before the game Saskatchewan honoured their lone 5th year athlete, Jacqueline Reynaud, who suited up for the last time at home today.

It did not take long after kick off for the Huskies to find their groove – Cheyenne Lehmann found the back of the net just 13 minutes into the game. This was Lehmann's fourth score of the season to carry on a stellar rookie campaign.

The Huskies continued to lay on the pressure as Marie Kilcher, out of Evan Hardy Collegiate, worked into the box. Kilcher was fouled leading to a penalty kick and made no mistake firing the ball home to extend the lead to two.

Less than 10 minutes later, Naleya Kobussen found the back of net for the second day in a row. This sent the Pronghorns into the second half trailing by 3.

The Huskies continued to have chances but struggled to capitalize until the 76th minute – Alyssa D'Agnone put up her 7th of the season and yanked game out of reach after Lethbridge had held the Dogs in check early in the half.

Fourth year Saskatoon product, Hailey Weber, finished the night off for the Huskies scoring in the 86th minute.

Nadia Kalyar got the start in net once again for the Dogs. Kalyar stopped 1/1 shots and posted a second consecutive clean sheet. Erin Gill started in net down for the Pronghorns and stopped 11/16 shots.

Post-game, Cheyenne Lehmann commented on her continued ability to stand out on the field. "It's such an opportunity that I'm given. Not a lot of people are able to come in and make a difference, especially in the first year. So, I'm very appreciative and I couldn't do it without my team or my coaches to support me. They have the confidence in me to play, and just come in and make a difference."

The Huskies are back in action this Friday. They will head to Regina to take on the Regina Cougars – this will be their second provincial rival match up of the U-Prairie Challenge. Live stream of the game available on CanadaWest.TV.
