MSOC: Huskies Fall Late to Dinos

Saskatoon – The Huskies took on the Calgary Dinos in their final regular season game at home this year.

As the Huskies looked to continue their late season playoff push, they opened the game up by applying the pressure early. Kevin Garic netted his first goal of the season just 8 minutes into the game to give the Huskies an early lead.

Both the Dinos and the Dogs traded opportunities but neither team was able to capitalize until Gianmarco Plenzik found the back of the net off a free kick just above the box in the 32nd minute.

That would be all for the offense in the first half as the teams would head to their locker rooms all tied up at 1-1.

The second half was going back and forth when the Huskies thought they found the back of the net to take the lead, but the Dinos defender stopped the ball on the goal line and kicked it out of harm's way.

The second half was evenly matched until the Huskies Captain Aaron Hidalgo-Mazzei found the back of the net in the 74th minute on a beautiful free kick bending it up and around Ruschkowski in net. This was the Winnipeg, Manitoba products first goal of the season.

The lead did not last long as Eryk Kobza tapped one home off an incredible pass from Victor Gouttin in the 77th minute.

Just 4 minutes later Kobza found the pay dirt once again beating Slopinski to give the Dinos the lead for good as the Huskies fell 3-2 to the visiting Dinos.

Jaron Slopinski got his 13th start of the season in net for the Dogs stopping 3 of 6 shots he faced. Jake Ruschkowski started in net for the Dinos and stopped 2 of 4 shots on target.

The Huskies head into the final regular season weekend in must win territory and will need some help to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2019-2020

The Huskies final regular season game is against the Lethbridge Pronghorns in Lethbridge on October 22. Live stream of the match available on CanadaWest.TV.
