Huskies Pick Up Tenth Straight Victory

SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team (10-0) completed the weekend sweep over the Brandon Bobcats (0-10) with a 98-43 victory Saturday night. The Huskies also completed the season series sweep with the win.

Carly Ahlstrom had 16 points to lead all scorers in the game. Summer Masikewich poured in 15 points and recorded her 20th double-double on the night collecting 13 rebounds.

The Huskies started the game on a 10-0 run thanks to a pair of triples from Katriana Philipenko and Ahlstrom. The Bobcats held tight with their own run midway through the opening quarter. After ten minutes of play the Huskies led 21-14.

Turnovers hurt both teams in the second quarter, with the Huskies committing 8 turnovers while the Bobcats committed 12. Ultimately, the Huskies were able to score 51 points off turnovers on the afternoon.

The home team opened the floodgates in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 34-6.

"We just needed to fix our defensive rotations. Offensively, moving the ball and making sure it doesn't stick with one player so we could find the open player was key," said third-year guard Carly Ahlstrom.

For the Bobcats, Adrianna Proulx and Reeta Tulkki both scored 8 points on the afternoon.

The Huskies improve to 10-0 on the season and will be on the road against the Winnipeg Wesmen next weekend. This key matchup between both squads will be a battle of undefeated teams with the top spot in the Canada West East division on the line.

"For next week, it's going to be a lot of mental and physical prep. It's been a weekend that we have been looking forward to," Ahlstrom added.

The Bobcats will have a bye weekend next week before traveling to Regina to take on the Cougars on February 4 and 5.
