Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Huskies Roll To 9th Straight Victory

SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team secured their first win of 2022 on home court Friday night with an 86-49 victory over the visiting Brandon Bobcats at the Ron and Jane Graham Center Court in Saskatoon.

Fifth-year Calgary native Summer Masikewich lead the way with 25 points (11/14 FGM) and 9 rebounds. Carly Ahlstrom chipped in with 18 points while Téa DeMong and Katrina Philipenko each contributed 11 points in the winning cause.

"It's been seven weeks since we have competed together as a team so it was really fun to get out there together and be back on our home court," said Masikewich. Speaking on her efficiency from the field, "I was really excited to get back and play with the girls. My teammates found me easy points early in the game and in transition which got me going for the rest of the night."

The Huskies locked in defensively from the opening tip, holding the Bobcats to eight points in the frame. The Huskies maintained their defensive pressure the rest of the way, forcing the Bobcats into shooting 26% from the field.

"We take a lot of pride in our defence and we talked about contesting shots all week, especially from the perimeter. We knew we could get our offence going by forcing turnovers and limiting them to one shot," said Performance Analyst Connor Jay.

For the Bobcats, Moose Jaw product Piper Ingalis led her team with 11 points on 3 made three-point attempts and Finland native Reetta Tulkki added 9 points.

The Huskies move to 9-0 on the season while the Brandon Bobcats move to 0-11. The series finale between these two teams will be tomorrow night rematch at 5 PM.
