SASKATOON – In a battle between the top university wrestlers in Western Canada, the Saskatchewan Huskies produced positive results at the Golden Bear Invitational in Edmonton, AB on Jan. 11.
 
FULL RESULTS
 
Picking up seven medals on the weekend, the No. 3 ranked Huskies made some noise in Alberta by claiming the team title and besting their perennial Canada West rivals in the No. 2 ranked Golden Bears. Logan Sloan at 54 kg, Ayobami Peluola at 65 kg, Carson Lee at 82 kg and Hunter Lee at 90 kg all won their respective classes. Securing 56 points in the contest, the Huskies beat the three other Canada West squads as they aim for their first conference title since 2015-16.
 
On the women's side, the No. 1 ranked Huskies also claimed seven medals at the meet. They were led by first-place finishes from Alexandra Schell at 48 kg, and Angela Aalbers at 59 kg. SueAnne Harms (55 kg) and Berit Johnson (72 kg) claimed silver in Edmonton.
 
Next up for the team is a trip to Guelph for the Guelph Open on January 19. The Canada West championship will also be hosted by the Calgary Dinos and is scheduled to take place Feb. 7-8
