VICTORIA – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies scored late to earn the draw with the University of Victoria Vikes during Canada West soccer action Sunday afternoon at Centennial Stadium.
Mason Ogoke's strike in the 89th minute evened it up at 2-2 and ensured that the Huskies would claim two points from a difficult road trip to B.C.
Saskatchewan carried the play throughout the game, outshooting Victoria 9-4 and compiling seven corner kicks in the contest.
Off one of those corners in the 24th minute, Vikes' goalie Jasdeep Lally jumped through a crowd to punch out the attempt. The rebound went out to
Kuhle Bekwayo, who used a seeing-eye shot to tuck one into the left corner past Lally and tie the game 1-1.
The goal was the first for Bekwayo in his young university career. With Ogoke and Bekwayo both scoring in Victoria, the Huskies now have nine different goal-scorers through their opening seven games of the season
Victoria carried an early lead after Ian Whibley finished off a great feed from Isaac Koch in the 13
th minute. The two connected again in the second half when Koch fed Whibley for yet another goal.
The Huskies (1-2-4) return home back to Saskatchewan to take on the Trinity Western University Spartans (1-3-3) on Saturday, Sept. 21.
