SASKATOON – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's hockey team will look to extend their four-game winning streak as they welcome the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds to town for a two-game series.

The Huskies remain at the top of the Canada West, but narrowly lead the Alberta Golden Bears by only a single point in the standings as the teams enter the stretch run of the regular season with the chase for home-ice advantage in the playoffs on their minds.

The Thunderbirds have clinched their second consecutive playoff appearance and sit only two points back of the Mount Royal Cougars for fourth in the conference. UBC split their series against the Calgary Dinos this past weekend in Vancouver, with their win on Saturday night snapping the team's five game losing skid.

The Huskies defeated the Thunderbirds in both meetings earlier this season, as they picked up 6-1 and 3-2 victories. Saskatchewan split the season-series against UBC last season, with each team taking care of business on home-ice.

5 Things

1: Friday night will serve as the team's annual Huskies Fight Cancer night, superkid Roan will be on hand to drop the puck along with members of Cody Smuk's family.

2: On Saturday night, the team will honour the Bell Let's Talk campaign supporting awareness for mental health.

3: The Huskies remain steady at number three in the U SPORTS national rankings.

4: The clash will begin a four game homestand for the Huskies, as they will take on the Mount Royal Cougars next weekend to wrap up their home regular season schedule.

5: Logan McVeigh was named the Canada West WHL second star of the week after registering four points last weekend in Lethbridge.

Scouting the Thunderbirds

First-year forward Maxwell James is having a fantastic rookie campaign, with 13 points in 19 games this season. The former Tri-City American is third in the Canada West in rookie scoring.
