Brandin Cote Record

Brandin Cote took over as head coach of the University of Saskatchewan Huskies prior to the 2022-23 season and following the one-year tenure of legendary NHL coach Mike Babcock.

Prior to taking over as bench boss Cote served as the associate coach under Babcock, helping the the Huskies to a 13-7-0 record and Canada West playoff berth.

Before joining the Saskatchewan staff the Swift Current local had served as an assistant coach with the Western Hockey league’s (WHL) Swift Current Broncos since the summer of 2018. Alongside his time spent as a coach in the WHL, Cote has been involved with Hockey Canada and Hockey Alberta as head and assistant coach at various tournaments and also brings previous collegiate experience from his time with the Red Deer College Kings.

A standout on the ice prior to becoming a coach, Cote enjoyed a professional career that spanned eight seasons, playing in the American Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League as well as leagues in Germany, Italy and England. Playing his junior hockey with the Spokane Chiefs in the Western Hockey League, Cote captained the team from 2000 to 2002.

In his four season as head coach of the USask Huskies, the program has seen great success with Cote leading the Dogs to back-to-back Canada West Championships in 2024-25 and 2025-26. It marked the first time the program has gone back-to-back since 1998-99 and 1999-00. In 2024-25 the Huskies also made their 22nd University Cup appearance and first since 2019-20, going on to capture bronze.

In 2025-26, after finishing second in the Canada West East Division, Cote’s Huskies recorded arguably the greatest conference playoff run in Canada West history. The Dogs rattled off a perfect 6-0-0 record with series sweeps of the Alberta Golden, UBC Thunderbirds and MRU Cougars to claim the program’s 13th banner. In a remarkable run, the Huskies played both the semifinal and final series on the road, with both coming against the East and West Division No. 1 seeds.

In four seasons, Cote has amassed a conference record of 76-28-4 and postseason record of 16-8.
