EDMONTON, Alta. — The University of Saskatchewan Huskies and the University of Alberta Golden Bears are set to add a 177th chapter to their Canada West rivalry this Friday when the two programs take the field at Foote Field for a Week 3 matchup.
Kick off is set for 6:30 PM CST at Foote Field in Edmonton, with the game being broadcast live on CanadaWest.tv and SaskTel max TV (channels 49/349) or available to listen to at HuskieFAN.ca or on the HuskieFAN app.
In Week 3, Saskatching will look to take advantage of a struggling 0-2 Golden Bear squad. After dropping their season-opener to the Rams, Alberta suffered a 43-10 road loss to UBC last week, allowing 565 yards of total offence and 285-yard, 4-touchdown performance to Thunderbird running back Marvyn Larozar.
Meanwhile, the Huskies got back in the win column in Week 2 earning a 44-24 Homecoming victory over Calgary. In an all-round impressive performance, the Huskies generated 464 yards of offence, found the endzone for five offensive scores, and saw
Daniel Kubongo return a missed field goal 123-yards for a touchdown.
GAME NOTES
BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN: Following a season-opening loss in Winnipeg, the Huskies bounced back in a big way. At USask Homecoming Saskatchewan earned a 44-24 win, featuring 464 yards of total offence, five offensive majors, and a 123-yard missed field goal return touchdown.
LEAVE NO DOUBT: This week, like every in Canada West, marks another crucial matchup for a Huskie offence looking to leave no doubt against a struggling Alberta defence. Last week, the Golden Bears allowed 565 yards to UBC which included 392 on the ground. Through two weeks, Alberta is giving up 41 points and 439 yards per game.
BACK AT IT: The Huskies and Golden Bears previously met for a preseason match earlier this season. Saskatchewan earned a decisive 35-1 victory at home. Last season, the Huskies took both mtchups, earning a 29-20 week 1 victory on the road before defeating Alberta 31-24 at home.
BELSHER BURSTS ONTO THE SCENE: In last week's win over Calgary, rookie receiver
Keaton Belsher had his coming out party as he totaled 7 receptions for 180 yards and two scores. He currently leads the team in all three receiving categories and ranks third in Canada West with 223 receiving yards.
500 CLUB: Anton Amundrud because just the fifth Huskie pivot to surpass 500 career completions on Friday in a passing performance which saw the fifth-year quarterback fo 22-for-33 for 332 yards, three scores, and one interception. With 14 more this Friday, he can surpass Saskatchewan great Brent Schneider for 4th all-time in program history.
PASSING YARDS TOO: Amundrud also needs 198 passing yards in the week 3 contest to move into 5th in program history for career passing yards and pass his current Offensive Coordinator,
Mason Nyhus.
RETURN GAME: Early in 2026 the Huskie return game looks to be once again impactful on a weekly basis. Led by fourth-year returner and 2025 Canada West All-Star
Daniel Kubongo, the Huskies lead Canada West with 14.8 yards per return. Last week Kubongo set a program record with a 123-yard kickoff return touchdown, his first return score since an 85-yard punt return in the 2025 Mitchell Bowl.
