Following arguably the greatest single weekend in Huskie Track & Field history at the 2026 Canada West Championships, the Saskatchewan women enter nationals as one of three main contenders for the U SPORTS banner, along with the Guelph Gryphons and Western Mustangs.
The Huskies, Gryphons and Mustangs have traded places all season in the top-3 of the national rankings, with Saskatchewan initially opening the season as the top-ranked team. In last week's final edition of the U SPORTS Top-10 the Gryphons held the top spot followed by the Mustangs and Huskies.Â
Saskatchewan boasts 11 student-athletes ranked among the top-5 in their respective events and enter the weekend with perhaps the strongest group of short-distance runners in the nation. Following a clean-sweep of the conference podium two weeks ago in the 60m, both
Kailee Woitas and
Hannah Hagerty are set to threaten for national medals with
Kendyl Dziadyk and
Selena Keyowski following closely behind. In the 300m, rookie sensation
Hailee Woodhouse has a chance to cap off a remarkable first season in green and white, owning the second-fastest time in U SPORTS. In the 60m hurdles the program once again features a talented duo in Canada West record holder
Nicole Ostertag and
Timi Adelugba, ranked 2nd and 4th respectively.
In the field events, veteran triple jump specialist
Olamide Olaloku enters as the student-athlete to beat, currently owning the best jump in the nation at 12.73m.
In the relay's, Saskatchewan has put together the fastest 4x200m relay time in not just U SPORTS, but the history of Canadian athletics after setting a new national record at the Canada West Championships with a time is over two seconds faster than the next closest team. The Dogs will also look to challenge in the 4x400m relay having recorded the second-fastest time this season behind only Guelph.
On the men's side, the Huskies enter the weekend looking to build off a strong week at the conference championships which featured nine medal finishes.
A Canada West gold medalist in the shot put,
Nathan Pinno will look to challenge for a podium in Winnipeg as he enters ranked second in the nation with a season's best throw of 17.41m. Also ranked among the top-5 in his respective event is freshman
Niklos Irwin, who ranks fifth in the 600m. In the 60m,
Williams Ogunnubi sits in a tie for the fifth-fastest time this season at 6.74 seconds which he ran at the conference championships to take home silver.
Action gets underway Thursday (Mar. 5) at 1:00 PM from the James Daly Fieldhouse.Â
