WINNIPEG, Man. - This past weekend (Jan. 30-31) the University of Saskatchewan Huskie track & field teams headed East for the penultimate meet of the 2025-26 regular season in the Jim Daly Bison Classic. At the sight of the 2026 U SPORTS Championships, set to take place in early March,
Olamide Olaloku highlighted the weekend for the Huskies.
A local fifth-year student-athlete, Olaloku secured first-place in the triple jump with a record-breaking leap of 12.69m coming on her fifth attempt of the evening. Her performance set a new Huskie program record, besting her own career personal best of 12.23m which had served as the program mark since 2024. In addition to solidifying her place among USask's best, Olaloku's jump also cleared the field by nearly a meter and was the furthest distance recorded by any U SPORTS athlete this season by over half a meter.Â
On the men's side, thrower
Nathan Pinno produced the feature performance of the weekend in the shot put. The sophomore from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and the reigning U20 Canadian shot put champion won the men's shot put Saturday morning with a throw of 17.41m which came on his final throw of the event. Pinno not only won the event by 0.98m, but he also set the second-furthest distance in program history, trailing only current record holder Andrew Smith who in 2011 set the program mark of 18.71m.
In other action, the Huskie Men's 4x400m relay team secured the top spot on the podium with a time of 3:22.04, showing plenty of heart and fight to win the final event of the weekend.
The Huskie track & field teams will head back to Edmonton next for the Pandas Open from February 6 to 7, 2026, which will serve as the final regular season meet of 2025-26. Upon returning from Alberta, Saskatchewan will begin their final preperations for the 2026 Canada West Track & Field Championship set to take place at their home track from February 20 to 21, 2026.
