ETHBRIDGE, Alta. - The top-ranked Huskies cruised to their 13th consecutive victory this season and 43rd dating back to November 2024 Friday night (Jan. 16) in Lethbridge, defeating the Lethbridge Pronghorns 101-52.
The Pronghorns found themselves trailing 41-24 at the end of the first half courtesy of a 25-12 2nd quarter in favour of the visitors. The Huskies were able to pull away in part to a significant rebound advantage which saw the Pronghorns struggle to control the glass leading to a 30-8 difference in points in the paint in favour of the defending National Champions.
Maya Flindall finishes the first half leading the visitors with 10 points with Tea Demong close behind with 9 points at the break. Piper Dobbelsteyn lead the home team with 7 points with Kamryn Deklerk chipping in 5 points.
In the second half that followed the themes of the first continued to plague the Pronghorns who were not able to climb back from their halftime deficit, eventually falling to Saskatchewan 101-52. The Horns couldn't find the matchups inside as the Huskies were able to find good looks under the basket, finishing the contest with 62 points in the paint, 31 forced turnovers, and 36 points off those turnovers.
The Horns bright-spot would be their outside shooting as they finished the night shooting over 30% from beyond the arc.
Tea Demong led the Huskies with a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double, her second of the season and the third of her career, while both
Gage Grassick and
Ella Murphy Wiebe added 18 in the winning effort.
The Pronghorns were led by their sharpshooting duo of Rae Wedman and Piper Dobbelsteyn as both players recorded 11 points with Wedman going 3-4 from three-point range and Dobbelsteyn finishing with 2 triples of her own.
The Huskies will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow (Jan. 17), as they return to the court at the Co-op Centre for Sport and Wellness at 5pm.
