LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men's soccer team earned a 2–1 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 28) at Community Stadium, improving their record to 3-3-3 on the season while the Huskies fall to 2-6-1.
The Pronghorns opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Karim Bey found the back of the net, tallying his first goal of the year. The momentum carried into the second half, where Kai Sakaguchi added insurance in the 70th minute, finishing a pass from Nicholas Bilodeau for his team-leading fifth goal of the campaign.
Lethbridge generated 18 shots in total, 11 of which were on target, forcing the Huskie goalkeeper
Jaron Slopinski to make nine saves. Defensively, Tegan Romaine stood tall in net for the Pronghorns, turning aside five of the six shots he faced.
Slopinski now ranks second in Canada West with 44 saves despite missing the first two matches of the season.
Saskatchewan pushed late and was rewarded with a goal at the 90th minute by
Ethan Cabral, who scored his second of the campaign, but the Horns held strong to close out the match.
The Huskies' next action comes in Calgary, where the Dogs will take on the Calgary Dinos (7-4-0) and the Mount Royal Cougars (6-1-4) next weekend.
