Huskies Shutout by Dinos in Tightly-Contested Divisional Matchup

SASKATOON, Sask. – The visiting Calgary Dinos put on an impressive defensive performance Sunday (Aug. 31) at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon, holding the Saskatchewan Huskies scoreless in a 2-0 victory.

With the loss, the Huskies move to 0-2-0 through their first two matches of the 2025 season, while the Calgary Dinos improve to 2-0-0 after also defeating the Regina Cougars in their season-opener Friday.

In what proved to be a scoreless opening half, both the Huskies and Dinos opened with tentative play as the Canada West Prairie Division rivals felt each other out early in the match.

The slow pace of play finally broke late in the frame when the Dinos recorded what appeared to be the game's first scoring chance before the offside whistle was blown.

After 15 minutes of second-half action and nearly an hour into the match, the tie finally broke when Calgary's Brooke Batty made her way into the offensive zone. The second-year midfielder switched to her left foot before firing a shot past the outstretched arms of Huskie goalkeeper Kalin Roberts and just inside the left post for the lead.

Just over 10 minutes later the Dinos doubled down after nearly an hour of scoreless action. After an initial shot was saved by Roberts, she was unable to corral the rebound which found the foot of Batty who recorded her second of the game and seventh of the season.

As the visiting team continued to press the attack with momentum squarely on their side, the Dogs continued to play their game, doing everything they could to get back into the match.

Late in the half, Roberts was seemingly forced to make her first save of the game, and an impressive one at that, to keep the game at 2-0 until the play was called offside.

Action was limited for the remainder of the game as the Dinos played strong defence on their way to the shutout win.

The Huskies return to action next weekend, when they play host the Lethbridge Pronghorns for a pair of matches on Saturday (Sept. 6) and Sunday (Sept. 7). Tickets are available at HuskieTickets.com
The Dinos also return home and will host the MacEwan Griffins and Alberta Pandas.
