Huskie Women Third in Team Standings After Day 2 of U SPORTS Track & Field Championships

WINDSOR, Ont. - A four medal performance saw the Saskatchewan Huskie women's track & field team move up to third place in the team standings on day two of 2025 U SPORTS Track & Field Championships at the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse in Windsor. 

The Huskies point total now sits at 48, thirteen back of the second place Guelph Gryphons and 30 behind the Championship-leading Western Mustangs. The Mustangs also sit atop the men's standing with 94 points followed by the Manitoba Bisons with 51 and Guelph with 49. The Usask men's team sits 18th with four points heading into the final day of the championships.

The Dogs captured four medals on day two in Windsor starting with a pair of podium appearances in the women's 1000m. Fourth-year arts & science major, Jenica Swartz earned gold in the event, taking home her first career U SPORTS medal in an individual event. Swartz beat out Western's Hallee Knelsen for the top spot on the podium with a time of 2:47.60, two tenths better than the second-place finisher. Also earning a medal in the event was standout middle distance runner, Avery Pearson who took bronze with a time of 2:48.21 for her second medal of the championship. 

Just an hour later the Huskies returned to the national podium, this time in the women's 60m hurdles. Local Saskatoon product, Timi Adelugba finished third in the event with a time of 8.29 for the first U SPORTS medal of her career. Adelugba crossed the finish line just one hundredth of a second behind Sherbrook's Maoly St-Germain and three tenths behind Sienna MacDonald of Calgary who took gold.

Saskatchewan closed out the day with their first relay medal event of the championship, the 4x800m. Crossing the finish line with a time of 8:51.70, Kaitlyn Harrison, Sarah Schwab, Jenica Swartz, and Avery Pearson, took gold for the Huskies to repeat as U SPORTS champions. 

The final day of the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships gets started for the Huskies at 11:30 AM with the women's triple jump, featuring Olamide Olaloku.
