FB: Standout Performances at the 2025 CFL Combine

Three Huskie players make their presence known among top prospects

REGINA, Sask. – Throughout three sessions (March 21, 22, 23), three Huskie players ensured their presence was known among the top prospects at the 2025 CFL Combine, each putting on a notable performance in front of scouts, general managers, and coaches from all nine teams.

Wide receiver Daniel Wiebe (Saskatoon, Sask.) and linebackers Seth Hundeby (Saskatoon, Sask.) and Lane Novak (Balgonie, Sask.) were all at one point or another recognized individually throughout the weekend.

Fitness testing took place on Friday, and Daniel Wiebe came out flying, ranking in the top five in three out of six drills and running a 3.95 in the short shuttle, ranking first overall. Wiebe's run tied for the second-fastest time in the history of the event, was the fastest recorded short shuttle run at the CFL Combine since 2017, and also surpassed the top shuttle run time at the 2025 NFL Combine.

On Saturday and Sunday, the players had the opportunity to put their pads on for on-field practice, running two back-to-back sessions of team drills each day.

Following Saturday's session, Lane Novak and Daniel Wiebe were both selected as Coach's Picks (Honorable Mentions), recognizing them among the top three defensive (Novak) and offensive (Wiebe) players of the day.

Following the final practice session, CFL.ca's Marshall Ferguson released his top three weekend prospects, including our very own Seth Hundeby, who undoubtedly had an excellent combine performance for many reasons.

Ferguson shared his thoughts on Hundeby via CFL.ca: "Great frame, ran extremely well for his size at around 250 pounds. There's some question as to whether or not he's a linebacker or potentially a defensive end, if he can adapt that skill set heading into the league. But he looks really good in special teams drills as a gunner and as a jammer, and now is working as a long snapper as well, and it looks as though he could add serious value to any franchise who decides to pick him, which is a huge upside."

3DownNation's JC Abbott also shared his thoughts on Hundeby's performance.

"In most years, running a 4.70 forty and a 6.88 three-cone will get you drafted in the CFL as a safety. To post those numbers as an oversized 251-pound linebacker makes Hundeby one of the freakiest athletes in this entire draft. While scouts knew that the Saskatoon, Sask. native would test well, he dramatically improved on his speed results from the East-West Bowl last year. With some great special teams reps backing up his raw tools, expect him to go in the top half of the draft even though he's told teams he'll be returning to Saskatchewan in 2025 to complete his engineering degree."

Following the Combine, Head Coach Scott Flory reflected on the weekend:

"I thought all three of them were outstanding, and every team I talked to, and I think I talked to them all, remarked on not only how well they performed but also how well they interviewed. Over the weekend, all the coaches, scouts and management of those teams were impressed  by those three guys, and that's a testament to them, how hard they worked, and just how great of young men they are."

"I think the one thing for us as a program, you know, especially given my background with the league, is that it is very important for us to make sure the guys that are there are prepared and that they are representing us and representing the program. I think that reputationally across the league (CFL) that those guys know that if this guy's got a Huskie helmet on, they deserve to be there, and they are going to represent very well."
