Coming off a dominant weekend against the Brandon Bobcats to secure the No. 1-seed in the Canada West Playoffs, the Huskies are ready to officially begin their conference title defence this weekend. The Dogs will take on the winner of the No. 8-seeded Trinity Western Spartans vs No. 9-seeded Mount Royal Cougars in a quarterfinal matchup this Saturday (Feb. 22), with their opponent set to be decided Friday (Feb. 21) in Saskatoon.

The Huskies earned the top seed in the postseason thanks to an 18-2 record during the regular season in which they dominated the majority of their opponents. After the 2024-25 campaign opened with back-to-back losses to the Calgary Dinos, the Dogs rattled off 18 consecutive wins, surpassing the 16-game streak the team achieved in a 19-1 regular season last year.

Over the course of the win streak, the Huskies averaged a 40-point margin of victory with the largest coming in a 116-40 victory against the Brandon Bobcats just last weekend. Their closest wins this season also came recently, with the Huskies earning back-to-back wins against the Regina Cougars by six and nine points respectively. Their success this season has made them not only the best team statistically in the conference, but one of the best in the nation.

The Dogs rank first in points per game (83.7), turnovers per game (16.1), assists per game (20.8), three-point shooting (34.0), and overall offensive efficiency (1.073) in the conference in addition to being top-3 in several other major statistical categories. Defensively, the team is just a impressive, if not more, ranking first in points allowed per game (47.9), steals per game (16.6), opponent shooting percentage (32.0), and overall defensive efficiency (0.620) making them the most difficult team in Canada West to play at both ends of the court.

While the Huskies have to wait to see who they will matchup against on Saturday, the team is familiar with one of their potential opponents in the MRU Cougars. The Dogs and Cougars faced off in a doubleheader in Saskatoon back in January in what was one of Saskatchewan's nine weekend sweeps this year. The Huskies earned 82-51 and 80-55 wins on their home court, trailing for only 11:59 of the 80 minutes the two teams shared the court.

As for Trinity Western, the Huskies and Spartans have not met since the 2022-23 regular season, a meeting which saw the Huskies earn a weekend sweep on their home court.

Tipoff for the Canada West 8vs9 Play-In game is set for Friday at 2:00 PM, with the Quarterfinal then taking place Saturday night at 7:00 PM.
