GAME NOTES
HUSKIES IN THE VANIER CUP: The Huskies will be playing in their 12th Vanier Cup this Saturday and looking to break a streak of sixth consecutive losses in the national championship. Their most recent appearance came in 2022 against the Laval Rouge while the program's last win came in 1998 against the Concordia Stingers.
HUSKIES/CARABINS IN THE POSTSEASON: The two teams are meeting for just the second time, with the only other matchup coming in the 2021 Uteck Bowl. The Huskies won the previous meeting 14-10 in Montreal thanks to a touchdown from Adam Machart with five seconds remaining.
DEFENCE, SPECIAL TEAMS LEADS HUSKIES TO VANIER CUP BERTH: In last week's Mitchell Bowl, the Huskie defence held the visiting Queen's Gaels to just one first-half, 84 yards on the ground, and pressured quarterback Alex Vreeken all day for, recording three sacks. On special teams, the Huskie coverage was phenomenal, limiting the Gaels to 21 yards on nine punts while
Daniel Kubongo totaled 177 return yards which included an 85-yard house call.
RYKER FRANK CONTINUES PLAYOFF HEROICS: In three postseason games this season, Frank has recorded 74 carries for 425 yards while adding 111 in the passing game. The fifth-year running back will now look to close out an outstanding career with a Vanier Cup championship. During his time in green & white Frank ranks third in career carries (430), second in career yards (2990), and in the past two seasons broke the program's career rushing touchdown (27) and total touchdown (32) records. The Regina product has also been a proven playoff performer, totaling 1200 yards in the postseason alone.
HUSKIE COACHES & STUDENT-ATHLETES LOOKING FOR VANIER REDEMPTION: 23 student-athletes remain from the 2022 Huskie Football team while just 14 remain on the roster from the 2021 season. Included among the players present in 2021 are fifth-years
Seth Hundeby,
Ryker Frank,
Daniel Wiebe,
John Stoll,
Jayden Engel, and Derek Beaubein who be suiting up in green & white for the final time Saturday.
On the coaching staff eight former student-athletes are back in championship game after losing at least once in the Vanier Cup. Six suffered multiple losses in the title game.
MASON NYHUS RETURNS TO VANIER FOR FOURTH TIME IN FIVE YEARS: As a Saskatchewan starting quarterback Nyhus led the Huskies to two Vanier Cups (2021 & 2022) during his Hall of Fame-worthy career in green & white. In his first season as a coach, he went back to the title game with the UBC Thunderbirds as the T-Birds quarterback coach in 2023. Now he returns once again, and in just his first season as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator of his alma mater.
During his time under centre for the Huskies, Nyhus was a Canada West Player of the Year, two-time All-Star, and in 2022 was named a Second Team All-Canadian. He closed out his career as the most productive pivot in program history, holding records for career attempts (1,155), completions (739), passing yards (9,649), and passing touchdowns (66).

SCOTT FLORY LOOKS TO MAKE PROGRAM HISTORY: Head Coach
Scott Flory will look to become the first member of the Saskatchewan Huskies to take home a Vanier as both a player and coach. Flory won the national title twice as a player in 1996 and 1998.
