SASKATOON, Sask. –
Dawson Holt scored twice and twelve Huskies found the scoresheet, as the U SPORTS No. 3-ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies earned a 6-3 win at home over the University of Manitoba Bisons.
The win marked the Dogs' fourth in a row, with the teams last loss coming back on opening weekend, improving their record to 6-1-0. The result also saw the USask program extend winning streak over Manitoba to twelve games, with the last Saskatchewan loss to the Winnipeg-based team coming in November of the 2022-23 campaign. For the Bisons meanwhile, the loss dropped the visitors to 3-3-1.
It took the Huskies just over five minutes to tally the game's first goal, as
Rhett Rhinehart send a point show which Bison goaltender Braden Holt was unable to corral. The rebound found
Chantz Petruic who buried a quick shot for his Canada West-leading ninth of the season.
Just past the midway point in the opening frame
Keaton Sorensen would double the lead after
Ben Tkachuk won an offensive zone faceoff and
Ty Prefontaine found the third-year forward for his first of the season.
In what was a penalty-filled first two periods for the Bisons, the visiting team would head to the box thanks to an early tripping to start the second.

Dawson Holt, who extended the Huskie lead to three.
Joah Pillar would score his first of the season just minutes later before
Carter Stebbings beat the buzzer to send the Huskies back to the locker room with a five-goal advantage.
The third was easily the Bisons best period, as they came out of the break looking to like a different team looking to end their scoreless drought.
Four minutes into the period, rookie Lucas Brennan recorded his fourth of the season after entering the zone and firing a shot from above the faceoff circle which beat
Jordan Kooy blocker-side to get the Bisons on the board.
As the visiting team continued to pressure the Dogs, a turnover at the blueline allowed Dawson Pasternak to find Skyler Bruce uncovered in front of the net, cutting the Huskie lead to three.
Three minutes later a failed clearing attempt from behind the Saskatchewan net allowed Andrew Boucher to jump on a loose puck and find Codey Behun for his first of the campaign.
The Manitoba comeback attempt be stopped their though, as
Dawson Holt would seal the Huskie win with an empty net goal in the final minute.
The Huskies and Bisons are back at it tomorrow for the second game of their weekend series with puck drop set for 5:00 PM at Merlis Belsher Place.
