KAMLOOPS, B.C. - The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team held the Saskatchewan Huskies to just 25 points in the second half en route to securing a 75-62 victory inside the TCC.
For the second night in a row Asher Mayan was the leading scorer for TRU as the fifth-year guard scored 18 points and snagged six rebounds. Dami Farinloye added 17 points of his own while Denys Bachurin recorded 14 points and dished our six assists.
Both
Emmanuel Bonsu and
Easton Thimm both recorded 18 points apiece for the visiting Huskies.
Mayan started the night with a bang, scoring nine points in the first quarter to help TRU jump out to an early lead. An 8-1 run in the middle of the frame for the 'Pack created some early separation as they led 23-15 after the first.
TRU went ice-cold in the second. The Huskies outscored the 'Pack 19-11 in the frame with Bonsu tallying nine and Thimm eight. Only a three-pointer right before the halftime whistle from Mayan kept the teams level at 34-34 headed into the break.
After a tight third quarter did little to separate the two, TRU ran away in the fourth. Fainloye led the way with eight points and the 'Pack finished the match on a 9-2 run to safely secure the victory.
The WolfPack forced Saskatchewan into making 17 turnovers while committing just nine themselves.
TRU moves into sole possession of third place in the Pacific Division at 5-5 with the win while Saskatchewan falls to 0-8.
The Dogs return to action following the winter break when host the Mount Royal Cougars on January 10 and 11, 2025.
