SASKATOON, Sask. - Former Kamloops Blazer,
Logan Bairos, scored his first career goal and hattrick in green & white Saturday night at the Co-operators Centre to help lead the Huskies over the Cougars in a 6-2 win. In the second game of the season and another U-Prairie Challenge presented by SaskMilk matchup, the Dogs were once again dominant, contorlling play on their way to a weekend sweep of the Cougars. With the win the Huskies improve to 2-0-0 with a goal differential of 13-3 through two games. MEanwhile the Cougars start the season 0-2-0.
It was another impressive first period for the Huskies, who entered Saturday's game coming off a 7-1 home win over Regina the night before. The Dogs scored three in the first period, kick started by
Logan Bairos' first goal of the season. The product of Saskatoon found the back of the net thanks to a well timed pass from
Chantz Petruic to find Bairos in the slot.
After the Cougars tied things up at one apiece it was former Saskatoon Baldes captain
Trevor Wong to score his first in green & white. After a battle in the corner, two quick passes set up a Wong one-timer to give the Dogs a 2-1 lead. Bairos would then pick up his second of the game just over five minutes later to send the Huskies into the locker room with a 3-1 advantage.
The second saw the third first career Huskie goal when
Jarrett Penner beat Regina goalie Jackson Fellner. It was then landon Kosior who hopped in on the action, giving Saskatchewan a comfortable 5-1 lead heading into the final frame.
Bairos would complete the hattrick with under five minutes remaining thanks to a blast from the point. Similarly to the Huskies season-opener on Friday, double-digit Huskies foudn their way onto the scoresheet with 11 different players registering a point in the win. In net,
Jordan Kooy was a steady presence, making 24 saves on his way to the first victory of his season.
