Undefeated Bisons to Test Huskie Home Field Advantage

This Friday, October 4, the Huskie Football team's impressive home field advantage will face its most difficult challenge yet when the undefeated U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Manitoba Bisons visit Griffiths.

In two home games this season the Dogs' have earned a pair of victories in dramatic fashion. First it was a 44-40 double-overtime homecoming win over the Calgary Dinos, and most recently, a 33-30 win against the Alberta Golden Bears which saw the Huskies erase a 30-14 deficit before a Lukas Scott game-winning field goal with 54 seconds remaining.

This week, however, begins a three-game stretch of rematches for the Dogs, who will see the Bisons and Rams at home before travelling to Calgary for a season finale against the Dinos. In their first meeting of the season in Winnipeg, the Bisons jumped out a 22-0 first-quarter lead that the Huskies were unable to climb out of.

This Saskatchewan team that enters week 6 of the Canada West season, however, is not the same team that fell in week 1. The Dogs are coming off their biggest win of the season and seem to have found their footing on both sides of the ball.
The Dogs boast one of the most potent offensive attacks in the nation, averaging 449.6 yards per game and 30.6 points per game. The Huskies are one of only seven teams in the nation to rank inside the top 10 in both statistical categories. They are also one of only five teams to rank among the best in the country in both passing and rushing yards per game, averaging 291.2 through the air and 158.4 on the ground.

Much of this offensive success can be attributed to the trio of quarterback Anton Amundrud, running back Ryker Frank, and receiver Daniel Wiebe, who have combined for 1,102 yards of offence. Much can be said about the Huskie offensive line as well, with the veteran group providing a steady force through five weeks this season.

This week the Huskie offence goes up against one of the top defences in the conference, with the Bisons averaging 17.4 points against per game while giving up the third fewest yards per game at 407.6.

On the other side of the ball, it's another test for the Saskatchewan defence who is set to go up against the 2nd ranked rushing attack in the conference. The Bisons average 212.8 rushing yards per game, with 94.2 coming from running back Breydon Stubbs and 54.6 from quarterback Jackson Tachinski.

Fourtunately, for the Saskatchewan front seven, they are coming off a fantastic performance in which they held the No. 1-ranked rushing attack to under 150 yards.

With the conference-wide bye week coming up next week, followed by the final two games of the regular season, this remains a pivotal matchup for the Huskies as they look to continue climbing the standings.
