VICTORIA, BC – A fourth-quarter push by the Saskatchewan Huskies was enough to overcome the University of Victoria women's basketball team's early lead, with the Huskies besting the Vikes 74-63 on Saturday Night at CARSA Performance Gym.
THE HIGHLIGHTS

Free throws opened the scoring in Saturday's game, allowing the Vikes to take the initial lead. Not long after, a 10-point scoring run by Saskatchewan put the Huskies in front, a beautiful jumper from Logan Reider would make it 12-4 in favour of the Huskies, with just over six minutes to play in the first quarter.

Fighting their way back, the Vikes had two free throws and a layup to tie the game, 14-14, with 2:54 still on the clock. Logan Reider would make a free throw to bring the Huskies back into the lead before going back-and-forth for the final three minutes and the Huskies coming out on top 23-21 after the first 10 minutes played.

Two free throws and a three opened the second-quarter scoring to put the Vikes ahead, 26-23. Building out a lead over the Huskies, the Vikes capped a 13-2 run with a three for a 37-25 advantage with 6:43 remaining. Carly Ahlstrom would get the Huskies back on the board with two free throws close to the halfway mark of the second.

The Vikes reached their lengthiest game lead following a layup, 41-27, with 4:57 showing on the clock.

A run from the Huskies pulled the visiting side within six, 46-40, come halftime.

Saskatchewan began to narrow the Vikes' lead in the third quarter; a jump shot from Carly Ahlstrom would put the Huskies back within three, 52-49.

The Huskies took back the lead, 57-55, with 1:21 to play, but a three-pointer put the Vikes back on top, 58-57, to end the third quarter.

Trading baskets through the first three minutes of the final frame, the Vikes were plagued by a nearly five-minute scoring drought, allowing the Huskies to take a 68-61 lead with 2:31 remaining in the game.

Unable to put up any more points on the board, the Vikes fell to the Huskies, 74-63.

Victoria would out-shoot the Huskies regarding stats, shooting 41.2% in field goals over the Huskies 32.9% and 31.6% from the three-point line versus the Huskies 19.4%.

The Huskies would get their hands on a team total of 42 rebounds and Victoria 38.

Sask would force 30 turnovers over the Vikes, with the Vikes only having 11.

Victoria's Tana Pankratz would lead the game, scoring 22 points. Gage Grassick would lead the night for Sask with 19 points.
THE RANKINGS
The U Sports and Canada West number 1-ranked Huskies remain undefeated at 16-0, while the Vikes move to 4-10 after this weekend's losses.
