VICTORIA, BC – The University of Victoria men's basketball team completed the series sweep of the University of Saskatchewan with a 79-58 victory over the Dogs on Saturday night at CARSA Performance Gym.
THE HIGHLIGHTS

The Huskies came into the first quarter with a goal of keeping the Vikes under control after the Vikes left the Huskies in the dust in Friday's game. The two teams would go back and forth for most of the first quarter until the Vikes created some separation with two jumpers and a three, taking a 17-11 lead with 1:49 to play in the opening quarter. Easton Thimm and Tyrese Potoma would close the quarter with a made layup and quick jump shot for the Huskies to make it 15-17 in favour of Victoria at the break.

Sask would take the lead for the first time this weekend at the start of the second quarter after rebounding a missed jump shot by Vic, but a layup and a three would put the Vikes back up by four, 22-18, with seven minutes until halftime.

The Vikes' lead continued to grow, and Saskatchewan would use the final minutes of the second quarter to pull back within one with another layup from first-year Easton Thimm to make it 30-29 with 1:33 to go before the Vikes would put down a final bucket and bring the halftime score to 32-29, in favour of Victoria.

Four straight points from the Vikes opened the third quarter scoring, making it a 36-29 game. Both teams would go scoreless for a period of time with continuous missed shots.

Fifth-year Alexander Dewar would add to the Huskies' score with two layups and made free throws before the end of the third.

Reaching a 10-point lead on a three at the halfway point of the quarter, 31-21, the Vikes would extend that advantage to 16 after finishing on a 5-0 run to take a 60-44 lead into the final quarter.

Outscoring the Huskies 19-15 in the final quarter, the Vikes came away with the 79-58 win.

Victoria would lead the scoring race with 31 points, going 11-27 in field goals, 4 for 13 from the three, and 100 percent from the line.

Alexander Dewar would lead the Huskies in points 18. Dewar shot 6 for 16 in field goals and went 6 for 6 from the line.

Sask would shoot 33.3 percent in field goals and Victoria 40.5 percent. The Huskies struggled from the three-point line in tonight's game, shooting 14.3, just short of half of Vic's 34.4 percent.

Saskatchewan would have 36 total rebounds, and Victoria would get their hands on a total of 51.

Victoria would force 14 turnovers with the Huskies close behind, forcing 11.
THE STANDINGS
The Vikes move to 11-3 on the year with the win, while the Huskies drop to 8-8 after the loss. The Vikes are ranked second in Canada West as well as second in the nation.
