WBB: Huskies Take Down Alberta Pandas

SASKATOON, SK – The Saskatchewan Huskies (15-2) took down the Alberta Pandas (13-4) to extend their win streak to thirteen this Friday night. The 77-57 victory was an ideal start for the Huskies final regulation home weekend.

The Pandas came out strong in the first quarter with their offensive momentum rolling. They shot 50% from the field in the opening frame compared to Saskatchewan's 35.3%.
After some back-and-forth action with two lead changes the Huskies managed to sneak ahead 21-19 to close the first.

The second quarter evened out the shot percentage wise with Alberta beginning to fall behind. Calgary's own, Carley Ahlstrom, maintained the pace for the Huskies and racked up 21 points before halftime. After a series of fouls that sent Dogs to the line, the Pandas remained behind 30-41 going into the halftime break.

The third quarter opened up strong defensively on both ends and even though Alberta outscored Sask 17-16 this quarter, the Huskies maintained their lead throughout and capped off the quarter 57-47.

The fourth quarter would see the Huskies offence hit their groove, with a strong showing from Tea DeMong – the second year out of St. Albert.

Captain Carly Ahlstrom led the way for the Huskies with 29 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals. UofA was led by Claire Signatovich with 16 points.

The starting five for the Pandas consisted of Shae McCusker, Jenna Harpe, Emma Kary, Morgan Harris, and Claire Signatovich. Down the court, the Huskies starters were Logan Reider, Carly Ahlstrom, Tea DeMong, Gage Grassick and Kyla Shand

Game two of the series hits the PAC on Saturday at 5:00 PM. Tickets are available at HuskieTickets.com
