REGINA, SK – In their final game of the regular season, the Saskatchewan Huskies went on the road to take on provincial rival Regina Rams in the final football matchup of the U-Prairie Challenge presented by SaskMilk. The Huskies wrapped up the regular season with a decisive 43-11 win.
Saskatchewan opened scoring with an 18-yard field goal from fifth year
David Solie on its second drive. The Rams got a single point off a missed field goal, then took what would be their only lead of the game on an Andrew Sweeney field goal which bounced off the right upright and squeaked through to put the Rams up 4-3 early in the second quarter.
The Huskies would score touchdowns on their next two possessions to take the lead for good, and it was running back
Ryker Frank who got them both. Halfway through the second quarter, Frank would force his way through the Rams defensive line for the one-yard touchdown.
Three minutes later, quarterback
Anton Amundrud would hand it off to Frank, who light up the field for a 40 yard rushing touchdown. The Huskies would head into halftime with a 17-4 lead over the Rams.
The Huskies extended the lead to 24-4 after a reverse brought them into the end zone and
Anton Amundrud ran it in himself from eight yards out.
The Rams got some life after a Chopper Hippe interception set up an eight play, 40-yard drive which was capped by a brilliant one-handed catch by receiver Rylan Sokul as he hauled in an Owen Sieben pass from seven yards out. The third quarter ended with a 24-11 Huskies lead.
Saskatchewan scored 19 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Running back
