U-Prairie Challenge Game
The game is the second in the series for the football teams in the U-Prairie Challenge presented by SaskMilk. The annual points-based competition between the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and University of Regina Rams & Cougars is in its second year of competition. The challenge includes 11 teams from the institutions and is a celebration of varsity sport in Saskatchewan.

Home Playoff Game on the Line
The University of Saskatchewan Huskies have a playoff spot locked up for the 2023 season but where they land in the Canada West standings is yet to be determined as the team heads into the final week of the regular season.
Saskatchewan is headed to the Queen City for a rematch against the Regina Rams. The last time these two teams met was at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park on September 8, 2023, for the annual Huskie Homecoming Game. Breaking a regular season attendance record that night of 10,054, the Huskies cruised to a 40-6 win over the Rams.
The Huskies are coming off two straight losses, both of which were extremely close, with a 20-23 loss to the Golden Bears on October 14 and a 12-13 loss to the Calgary Dinos on October 21.
Second year quarterback Anton Amundrud continues to be an offensive threat for teams taking on the Huskies. Ranked fifth in the nation with 272 passing yards per game, Amundrud has racked up 1,904 passing yards and 12 touchdowns in his first year as starting quarterback. It has been an impressive season for the Lloydminster, SK product, who has seamlessly transitioned into the position after being backup quarterback in 2022.
Third year Ryker Frank has been the running back of choice for Amundrud this season, leading the Huskies in rushing yards with 401 and two touchdowns, one rushing and one on kick return.
Daniel Perry is thriving in his last year as a Huskie. The receiver has three touchdowns and 511 receiving yards, sitting just outside the U SPORTS top 10 receivers list in 11th spot. Drafted by the Ottawa Redblacks in the off season, the veteran has been a dominant force on the field and is expected to be a key performer against the Regina Rams.
Defensively, it will be difficult to get by Saskatchewan's linebackers, notably Nick Wiebe, who sits in fourth place nationally in the U SPORTS rankings, with 53 tackles. Seth Hundeby has been making his mark defensively as well, with 36.5 tackles to his name. With defensive linemen Nathan Jule and Reece McCormick providing quarterback pressure and leading the team in sacks (4 and 3.5 respectively), Regina's offence should be under constant pressure on Saturday afternoon.
Interceptions have been a big part of the Huskie season on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Anton Amundrud, despite approaching 2,000 passing yards on the season, has thrown 14 interceptions.
The Huskies defensive backs however, have added their fair share of interceptions, picking off opposing quarterbacks six times. Nixen Voll leads the team in defensive interceptions with three in the regular season. He's joined by teammates Finn Marcotte-Cribb (2), and Katley Joseph (1). Regina's quarterbacks will have to be precise and focused to avoid these defensive powerhouses in the backfield.
Scouting the Rams
2023 has not been the best season for the Rams. With a Canada West record of 1-6, they are out of playoff contention. Last week's matchup against the top ranked UBC Thunderbirds saw the Rams start strong before the Thunderbirds made some key adjustments to take the 31-20 win.
Much of Regina's struggles have been at the quarterback position. The Rams opened their season alternating Noah Pelletier and Bryden O'Flaherty as shot caller, before pivoting towards Owen Sieben in the quarterback position. The first year from Langley, BC has put up some impressive numbers, with 1,198 passing yards and four touchdowns.
Receivers D'Sean Mimbs and Rylan Sokul continue to be a threat to the Saskatchewan defence. Third year Mimbs leads the Rams in receiving yards with 460 and is the go-to guy for Rams quarterbacks.
Sokul was a star in the Canadian Junior Football League last year, leading the Regina Thunder to a Prairie Football Conference championship. He is making his mark in U SPORTS as a first year, with 220 receiving yards and two touchdowns for the Rams, he is proving to be an important part of Regina's offense.
Regina's strength lies with its linebackers. Fourth year Cameron Mach leads the team in total tackles with 47. Fifth year Josh White is also a threat at linebacker, as he leads the Rams in solo tackles with 24. Chopper Hippe, who was an incredible presence for the Edmonton Wildcats in the Canadian Junior Football League, will have his eye on Saskatchewan's quarterback, as he leads the team in sacks with three on the season.
