WBB: Huskies Dominate WolfPack and Improve to 8-2

SASKATOON – For the second night in a row the Saskatchewan Huskies (7-2) took on the Thompson River Wolfpack (1-8) at the PAC. The Huskies dominated the court, grabbing the 84-31 win over TRU and both games of the weekend series.

It was the Huskies that jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead, but the Wolfpack were unfazed and kept at it, tying it up at 10 midway through the quarter. It was the conference leading Saskatchewan defence that clamped down, holding TRU to just two points over the final five minutes of the first quarter to take a 26-12 lead after one.

Gage Grassick hit both of her attempts from deep in the quarter and a team high eight points in the frame, Logan Reider the rookie out of St. Joseph High School had seven of her own in the first. Six different USask players found the basket in the first quarter compared to just four for the Wolfpack.

The second quarter was all Huskies as they outscored Thompson Rivers 23-9 in the quarter to stretch the lead to 28 at the break. The Huskies put on a clinic in the first half grabbing 32 rebounds compared to TRU 11, while also hitting on 43.8% from deep on 16 attempts in the half while the Wolfpack shot 36.4% from deep on 11 attempts respectfully.

The third quarter started out with the Wolfpack showing some push. The Wolfpack only allowed five points to the Dogs in the first 6:20 of the half but struggled to take advantage scoring only eight points themselves. The Huskies found a bit more of a groove later in the quarter outscoring TRU 14-8 in the quarter stretching the lead to 34.

The final quarter saw the Huskies keep their foot on the gas, opening on a 12-0 run before Thompson Rivers found the basket with 3:16 remaining in the quarter.

This one was all Saskatchewan from start to finish, with the Huskies improving to 8-2 on the season, pushing their win streak to six with a convincing 84 to 31 win over the visiting Thompson Rivers Wolfpack.

Head Coach Lisa Thomaidis went deep into her bench with 12 different Huskies getting minutes, and ten different Huskies hitting the basket tonight. The Dogs were led by Gage Grassick who had 20 points and nine rebounds while Kyla Shand had 18 points and nine rebounds, and guard Logan Reider with 12 points.
