SASKATOON, SK – The Huskies opened the 2022-2023 season looking to start off on the right foot against the Fraser Valley Cascades.
The Huskies were led for the first time by Jamie Campbell who was making his Huskies debut as Head Coach.
The Huskies started out hot in the first quarter taking a 28-20 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
Alexander Dewar had a stellar start for the Huskies with 10 points in the opening quarter. Saskatchewan shot 66.7% from the field while holding MRU to 42.1%.
The second quarter was all Huskies outscoring the Cougars 33-17 to watch the lead to 24 at the half. Tyrese Potoma had 10 in the second quarter while Erwin Loic chipped in with eight points of his own. Holt Tomie had 8 points in the second to lead Mount Royal. The Huskies held the Cougars to just 30% shooting from the field in the quarter.
The Cougars began to slow down the Huskies offense in the third quarter, holding them to 23 points, but the Huskies were able to hold MRU to 19 to continue to grow the lead. Tomie continued to lead the Cougars scoring 10 more in the third. Dewar chipped in with 9 more in the quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the Mount Royal Cougars solve the Huskies high power offense holding them to 15 points but it was a little too late as the Huskie rolled to a 99-77 victory. Cam Wright had 9 points off the bench for the Huskies in the fourth. Keivonte Watts had seven for the Cougars.
Tomie Holt had 28 points, while Kelvonte Watts had 20 to carry the MRU offense tonight. Alexandar Dewar had 24 to lead the Huskies, while Tyrese Potoma had 20 himself. Maxwel Amoafo had 11 rebounds for the Huskies.
