The Saskatchewan Huskies handed the UBC Thunderbirds their first loss of the season in a 4-2 decision in Vancouver, BC.
The game was dominated by powerplays, with 14 total – seven aside – with Huskies goaltender
Roddy Ross making 31 saves in his third win of the season. "Roddy played really well" said Head Coach
Brandin Cote. "The Thunderbirds have a really good team in terms of offense and anything we gave them, we gave them in my opinion."
Late in the first period,
Jared Dmytriw opened scoring in the game on a shorthanded breakaway to put the Dogs on the board. UBC's Chris Douglas scored the equalizer 1:45 into the second with his own shorthanded goal. Saskatchewan responded with a power play goal from Vince Loschiavao, his third of the season, to end the second period with a 2-1 lead.
The third period proved to be an exciting one. Opening scoring three minutes into the third period was
Justin Ball, who found the back of the net with help from Alex Zawatsky and
Connor Hobbs to put the Huskies up 3-1. Trailing with three minutes remaining, UBC's Jake Lee scored his fifth of the season bring the Thunderbirds within a goal. The Huskies offense kicked into overdrive and
Cael Zimmerman found the empty net to seal the Huskies victory.
