Huskies Sweep Weekend Over Brandon Bobcats

SASKATOON – It was a tale of two halves for the Saskatchewan Huskies (7-3) as they rallied behind a strong second half push to topple the Brandon Bobcats (1-11) 84-80 on Saturday night at the PAC.

The Huskies started slow out of the gate but grew into the game as it progressed. Brandon struck fast and early, hopping out to an eleven-point lead to finish the first quarter. The Huskies were able to claw back in the second, despite the Bobcats strong offense and organized defense. The Bobcats took a 43-38 lead into the half.

Despite trailing after two, the Huskies were able to show the resiliency that they have demonstrated all season long. The Dogs came out firing with a Tyrese Potoma 3-pointer to start the half to cut the Bobcat lead to two points. From there, the Huskies started scoring by committee, including three 3-pointers from Nervens Demosthene in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Huskies.

"We didn't play as well defensively as what we had hoped we would in the first half. We came out in the second half and we were a little more disciplined, we weren't running around as much. We were able to get a couple of stops and kind of work our way back into the game," said Huskies head coach Barry Rawylk. "It says something about [Demosthene's] resilience. He was shaky in the first half, but he came back and bounced back and made some critical shots for us."

Flint, MI-product Marquavian Stephens led the Huskies with 25 points and 7 rebounds. Emmanuel Akintunde also collected 7 rebounds on the night.

Anthony Tsegakele led the Bobcats with 26 points and 15 rebounds on the night.

The Bobcats will have a bye week next weekend before taking on the University of Regina on February 4 and 5.

The Huskies will be back in action next weekend when they take on the University of Winnipeg.
