SASKATOON - The University of Saskatchewan Huskies men's soccer team put a wrap up on what is a tremendous start to their 2021 season, with a 3-0 win over the visiting Lethbridge Pronghorns at Griffiths Stadium in Nutrien Park.
The win marks the Huskies second-consecutive clean-sheet, coming on the backs of their 4-0 win on Friday night, sealing a six-point weekend.
Ahmed Mohammad, Kuhle Bekwayo and Kevin Garic found the back of the net in the win, with Garlic's serving as his first as a Huskie. For Mohammad and Bekwayo, their tallies marked goals in back-to-back matches for the pair of young Huskies.
The victory for Saskatchewan moves them to 2-0 and are the lone club to record wins in their first two games in the east division, while with the loss, Lethbridge falls to 0-3.
Making the start in net for Saskatchewan was Henry Bremer, a first-year from Germany, recorded his first win - doing so with a clean sheet - at the Canada West level.
"I thought it was important to get Henry in. He's going to be a big piece to this team success along with Marcus. Marcus had a fantastic game last night, but the little work Henry got he definitely looks comfortable in there and we know we've got a great goalkeeper for the future," said Chapman.
The Pronghorns were able to muster up two shots on goal in the contest, playing with more fight in an improved after Friday night's match.
"We knew Randy and Lethbridge would come back stronger and not lie down. We saw that in the first half, I thought they defended as well," said Chapman.
Ahmed provided the icebreaker however in the 41st minute, as he showed terrific composure and finished off a beautiful ball from Nikolas Baikas.
"I thought the goal at the end of the first half really turned the tide and I thought after that we were comfortable and we just started to play the style that we wanted to play against this team," said Chapman.
From there, Bekwayo's goal in the 62nd minute, and Garic's icing on the cake in 85th minute were enough for the Saskatchewan side.
The Huskies position themselves at the top of the division entering next weekend, as they get set to trek west into Winnipeg for two conference clashes against the MacEwan Griffins.Â
Meanwhile, Lethbridge will look to get in the win column next weekend, as they take part in a home-and-home against the Calgary Dinos.
