Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Huskies Draw Opening Matchup Against Wesmen

In a return to Canada West Conference play, the Huskies and Wesmen drew 0-0

After a near two-year hiatus, the Huskies returned to the field in Winnipeg on Saturday morning.

The game was tightly contested throughout the 90 minutes and ended in a 0-0 draw at the Ralph Canafio Soccer Complex. Both teams traded opportunities throughout the match, with the Huskies generating 21 shots (11 on goal) while Winnipeg had 14 shots (13 on goal).

Jadyn Steinhauer shone between the posts – as she has often done in her five-year Huskies career. Steinhauer recorded another shutout in her illustrious time with the Huskies.

Despite the draw, both teams had many positives to take away from the game heading into tomorrow's rematch. The return of Canada West conference play was made evident by the smiles on the faces of the players and coaches on both teams.

"It's Game 1 of 12, so it's baby steps from here", Saskatchewan head coach Jerson Barandica-Hamilton said. "I thought we did what we wanted to do minus put the ball in the net, which is sometimes the hardest part. But, yeah, a lot of positives and obviously a lot of things that we need to get sharper at. But overall it was just great to see our team get out and have the opportunity to play."

"We were excited to play and I'm really pleased that we came out with good energy", Wesmen head coach Amy Anderson said. "We've made a few progressions from a couple of years ago and we're hoping to just keep building from that.

The two teams will meet again Sunday at noon CST (11 AM in Saskatchewan) on Field 2 of the Cantafio complex. Fans can tune in live on CanadaWest.tv.
