For the final time in 2021, Lisa Thomaidis and the undefeated University of Saskatchewan Huskies women's basketball team will head to the hardwood at the PAC.
The number-one ranked Huskies battled through adversity last Friday night, en route to a 71-68 overtime win over the Regina Cougars in what was their first game action in nearly three weeks.Â
But they came back in convincing fashion on Saturday night with a 80-53 rout of Regina, off the backs of double-digit efforts from Summer Masikewich, Carly Ahlstrom and Lippy Epoch.
The Huskies are hoping that momentum carries over to Friday night, when they battle with the Bisons for the first-time this season.Â
Manitoba comes to town fresh off their first two victories of the season last weekend in Brandon, with 77-63 and 78-65 wins over the Bobcats.
The Bisons have been led by fifth-year guard and Dundas, Ont. product Taylor Randall. Randall is fresh off a 24-point performance on Saturday night in her team's win over the Bobcats and is averaging a team-leading 13.8 points-per-game this season.
Meanwhile for the Huskies, who are just one of eight teams in the nation to remain undefeated, they have received tremendous production from the aforementioned Epoch. The Moose Jaw, Sask. product ranks fifth in the country with a 51.7 three-point percentage and is averaging 14 points-per-game this season — nearly double her 7.10 points-per-game stat line back in 2019-20.
Along with Epoch, Masikewich and Ahlstrom have had strong starts to their seasons, each ranking in the top-ten of Canada West points-per-game. Masikewich's 20.7 points-per-game ranks third in the conference and seventh in the country.
Saskatchewan is looking to extend a 16-game win streak against Manitoba this weekend, which dates back to 2009-10, with their last loss coming to the Winnipeg-based program on Jan. 31, 2010 — 4,323 days ago.
