Huskies Drop Close Game Against Thunderbirds

SASKATOON - The University of British Columbia Thunderbirds women's hockey team defeated the Saskatchewan Huskies 2-0 at Merlis Belsher Place Saturday night.

Huskies goaltender Camryn Drever had 31 saves on 33 shots in the loss. Ashley McFadden and Hannah Koroll both beat Drever in the first period to help the Thunderbirds get the win.

Third-year forward Ashley McFadden opened the scoring for the T-Birds 9:28 into the first period. Kenzie Robinson found McFadden in the slot to score with the player advantage.

In the final minute of the opening frame, defender Hannah Koroll sniped one from the point past Drever to give UBC a 2-0 lead.

Drever played a strong final 40 minutes but the Huskies offence was unable to beat T-Birds net minder Elise Hugens. Hugens made 24 saves to earn the shutout.

The Huskies will travel to Calgary next weekend to face off against the Mount Royal Cougars to close out the first half of the season. The UBC Thunderbirds will return home to play the Trinity Western Spartans.
